Mostly in fabric painting instructions I've seen advice non to use handpainted textile for quilts that will exist used (and washed).
Now I'chiliad aware pigment isn't dye and kind of 'sits on meridian of the fibre', so I'yard bold it won't stay on for hundreds of washings and centuries and centuries... But I'g kind of thinking in lifetime terms, not heirlooms and museums and all that.
Then I'm wondering - for those of y'all who paint, take yous used your cloth in lap or bed quilts? How did it concur up to utilise, how did information technology historic period if you done it occasionally?

Can't speak for quilts but I'g still wearing a t-shirt that I painted over 20 years ago and all the colors are however at that place. You need to either use paints that say "cloth paint" or add "fabric medium" to the pigment.

Interesting - I purchased a bunch of t shirts from an artists years ago that painted different greyhounds on shirts - they looked corking until I washed them the outset time - they were a pale paradigm of what they originally looked like - I bet he didn't use a material medium on them

Fabric pigment or paint with fabric medium should hold upward to many washings. I have done lots of material painting and never had any problems with pigment fading.
Exist certain you oestrus ready the pigment. This a necessary step to insure paint adheres to fabric. When estrus setting place a pressing cloth or paper towel over painted surface before touching with fe.

Cool! I'd say T shirts see more serious employ than a quilt and with it being knit (and therefore stretchy), it would probably be harder on the paint than with a quilt. Cheers.
